AIOA is a private kindergarten–grade 12, college-preparatory, Cognia-accredited school offering individualized distance education. We create a flexible learning environment that encourages students and families to take advantage of opportunities to travel, stay active in their communities, and pursue their passions.

Johnny is a typical 8th-grade boy who loves football and video games. He wakes up around 7 a.m. with his dad, they eat breakfast, get ready, and head out together to catch the train. Not every student rides the train with a parent to work — but Johnny does, because he attends school at his dad’s workplace.

This is not a one-day “take your child to work” event. It is an everyday arrangement. Johnny attends AIOA, an accredited school that meets all his academic needs. His dad helped set up a learning center at his place of employment so Johnny and several other employees’ children can attend school there.

At Johnny’s learning center there are eight other students of varying grade levels. Each student works on their own computer and their own AIOA coursework. A facilitator is on site to answer basic questions, maintain a positive and orderly environment, and support an efficient learning atmosphere. AIOA teachers provide remote instruction, feedback, and support. Students and facilitators also take field trips arranged by parents and students to enrich learning and create a well-balanced experience.

Learning centers like this are a growing trend across the United States. They appear in workplaces, churches, community spaces, and other venues.

Chloe is in 10th grade and has two brothers and one sister. Her family chooses a homeschool environment. Chloe’s mom loves being home to support her children’s education and upbringing. Every day the children work online using AIOA’s coursework. Each child follows an individualized curriculum tailored to their aptitude and skills.

With AIOA, Chloe can work at her own pace without the disruptions common in traditional school settings. She even completed her freshman math course early and moved into the next level within the same year.

Chloe’s mom has said that without AIOA she could not homeschool four children on her own. Because AIOA is accredited and provides quality curriculum plus certified teachers who answer questions, offer tutoring, and grade assignments, she feels supported and confident that her children receive an excellent education in a safe, nurturing environment — along with strong family time.

Learning centers are alternative environments that give students and parents flexibility in time and location while supporting social interaction and individualized learning. Families can choose from several models depending on their needs and resources. AIOA can help with basic options and with the design and implementation of learning centers. Parents/guardians assume full responsibility for the operations and management of the learning center facility.

• Professional facilitator or volunteer parent for supervision
• Established daily hours
• Secure, controlled access

With home-based education growing at an estimated 2–8% per year, schools that offer flexible, high-quality options are well positioned to serve modern families.
